Question
Why isn't my Scene running as expected?
Answer
If a Scene does not run as expected, please check the following possible causes.
1. Check Whether the Devices Are Online
Most Scenes need to communicate with the cloud to run. If a device involved in the Scene is offline, the Scene may not run properly. Please make sure the relevant devices are online and can be controlled normally.
2. Scenes Cannot Trigger Other Scenes Through Device Actions
Scenes do not support chained triggering.
For example:
- Scene A turns on Device B.
- Scene B uses "Device B turns on" as its trigger.
When Scene A turns on Device B, Scene B will not be triggered by this action.
3. Check the Effective Period of the Scene
A Scene only runs when its trigger occurs during the configured Effective Period.
For example, suppose you have the following Scene:
- Trigger: Device A turns on
- Action: Turn on Device B
- Effective Period: 10:00–20:00
At 09:59, Device A is already on. Although Device A is in the state specified by the Scene, 09:59 is outside the Effective Period, so the Scene does not run.
When the time reaches 10:00, the Scene will not automatically run simply because the Effective Period has started. Device A was already on before the Effective Period began, so there has been no new state change to trigger the Scene.
To trigger the Scene, you can turn Device A off and then turn it back on during the Effective Period.
Alternatively, saving the Scene again can cause it to run immediately if its conditions are currently met.
If your Scene still does not run after checking the above, feel free to reach out to us at support@ewelink.zendesk.com. To help us investigate, please include details about your Scene settings, the devices involved, and relevant screenshots.
