Question
How can I check whether my phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network?
Answer
Many smart devices require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network during pairing. If your device only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, make sure your phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz band before starting the pairing process.
You can check the Wi-Fi frequency on your phone using the methods below.
For Android Users
On many Android phones, you can check the Wi-Fi frequency directly in the system settings.
The exact steps may vary depending on the phone model. In general:
- Open Settings on your phone.
- Go to Wi-Fi, WLAN, or Network & Internet.
- Tap the Wi-Fi network your phone is currently connected to.
- Check the network details for information such as Frequency, Band, or similar.
If the network shows 2.4 GHz, your phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
For iPhone Users
iOS does not normally display the Wi-Fi frequency directly in the Wi-Fi settings. You can use Apple's AirPort Utility app to check the Wi-Fi channel.
- Download AirPort Utility from the App Store.
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and select AirPort Utility.
- Enable Wi-Fi Scanner.
- Open the AirPort Utility app.
- Tap Wi-Fi Scan.
- Find the SSID of the Wi-Fi network your iPhone is connected to and check its channel.
As a general guide:
- Channels 1–13 indicate a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- Higher channel numbers generally indicate a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Note: Available Wi-Fi channels may vary by country or region.
