Question
How can I enable or separate the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network on my router?
Answer
If your router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi and both bands use the same Wi-Fi name (SSID), you may need to separate them so your phone can connect specifically to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network during device pairing.
The exact steps vary by router model, but you can generally follow these steps:
-
Open your router's configuration page.
Check the label on the back or bottom of your router for the router's IP address, username, and password. Use this information to sign in to the router settings page. -
Open the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi settings.
Find the settings for the 2.4 GHz band and change its Wi-Fi name (SSID) to something easy to identify, for example:
HomeWiFi-2.4G -
Open the 5 GHz Wi-Fi settings.
Change the 5 GHz Wi-Fi name to a different SSID, for example:
HomeWiFi-5G
If your router allows it, you can also temporarily disable the 5 GHz Wi-Fi during pairing.
- Save the settings.
-
Connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
On your phone, select the Wi-Fi network you renamed as HomeWiFi-2.4G, then try pairing the smart device again.
Router interfaces and setting names vary by manufacturer and model. If you cannot find these options, please refer to your router's user manual or contact the router manufacturer for assistance.
